Pros:

Love your use of parallax scrolling. I'm super jealous of you using this effect so well. the music fits the game quite well.

Cons:
I had a bit of trouble timing the jumps. I'm not sure if holding the space bar makes you jump higher, but that would be nice.
I don't know what the icons following the player are.

I like the artwork style. The paralax scrolling is cool, but the level is too confined to notice it. The bad guys don't seem to back up far enough when shot.

I think this game needs a story behind it. maybe make up a silly introduction explaining the game. The graphics are amazing and I agree that the UI needs to be clearer. Overall, it's a cool idea.

The tutorial works well to ease you into play. I do have trouble reading the text. I know you're going for an effect, but thought you may want to make it cleaner.

Overall, this is a pretty cool adventure game.
